In the beginning of the 14th century, İbrahim Bey, who was appointed as Mugla provience governor by his father - Orhan Bey who was inhabiting in Bechim (Beçim) Fortress-, had Ulu Mosque (which used to be named Elvan Bey Mosque or Cami-i Kebir in the past) built in 1344. According to the conceptions and the traditions of the period, foundations were established for each of the new mosques respectively; and consequently, shops, baths and fields used to provide the cleaning, restoration expenses of the medreses and the mosques, and moreover the payments of the Imams, Hatips and Muezzins, in accordance with their own income.
Thus, as the constraction date of Ulu Mosque and Its Kulliye (Ulu Mosque bulding complex) dates back to 14th century, the constraction date of Vakıflar Turkish Bath is considered as a building of the same period. Vakıflar Turkish Bath used to be known as Elvan Bath during the Ottoman Period. The bath, which was restorated a few times in the past, had its final restoration in 1990. With the new spirit, new faith and new culture conception brought to the newly invaded lands in the Turco-Islamic tradition, this Historical Bath also indicates the deepth, richness and significance of the body and spiritual cleanliness in the Mugla Provience.
